Notification
Montana Victims can learn about an offender's custody status, hearing, and release dates by calling a toll-free number in complete anonymity. The Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE ™) keeps you current 24 hours a day 7 days a week when you register through your telephone. VINE ™ and/or the prison facility can notify you if an offender escapes or if the offender's custody status changes. The Board of Pardons and Parole can notify you of an offender's hearing dates. The Department of Corrections recommends that you register with VINE ™, The Board of Pardons and Parole, and the facility where the offender is being held.

Victim information specified by Montana law:
1. The estimated date of the defendant's release from confinement.

2. The date, time and place of a parole hearing and your right to submit a statement to the Board of Pardons and Parole.
3. Reasonable advance notice before release of the defendant on furlough or to a work-release program or correctional facility.
4. Prompt notice of the defendant's escape from a correctional or mental health facility or community program; a recapture; a decision of the Board of Pardons and Parole; a decision of the governor to commute the sentence or to grant executive clemency; a release from confinement and any conditions attached to the release and the defendant's death.
Victim Information Officers
The Department of Corrections and each Montana facility has a designated victim information officer or VIO. The VIO can provide information to victims and the general public about victims' rights, access to offender information and other sources of assistance.

The Victim Information Specialist has access to a variety of reports and studies from local and national sources that may be made available to inquirers. Some materials may require a charge.
