The Montana Department of Corrections firmly supports crime victims in a number of important ways. Each correctional facility in Montana has a designated Victims Information Officer (VIO) to assist crime victims with their quest for current, accurate information. The Public and Victims' Information Specialist (PVIS) serves as an advocate for crime victims in general and staff liaison to the Crime Victims Advisory Council. The Council, which advises the department, consists of crime victims, victim advocates and several VIOs from DOC facilities.
Do you need information about an offender or help in understanding the victims' office?
The Department has five ways to help you.

  1. Victim Notification-a telephone system
  2. Victim Information Officers
  3. Crime Victims Advisory Council-a group committed to advancing victims' rights
  4. Correctional Offender Network a Web-based Offender Information Locator
  5. Victim-Offender Dialog Program
