Dan Kissner started his corrections career as a counselor at the Hope Center Wilderness Camp for troubled youth in Apple Springs, Texas in 1994. Then in 1995 Kissner started working at Montana Youth Alternatives as a direct care line which became Riverside Youth Corrections Facility in 1997. Kissner was promoted through the ranks to the Director of Operations in 2000, and eventually becoming the Superintendent in 2012. Dan received his bachelor’s degree in Sociology/Criminology from the University of Minnesota in 1993.

Visiting Information

Riverside Youth Correctional Facility is a safe and secure correctional facility for twenty adjudicated delinquent females between the ages of 10 and their 18th birthday. The program provides care, supervision and treatment to youth in a manner that recognizes the unique needs of adolescent females. The program places a strong emphasis on youth accepting responsibility for their actions and gaining individual competencies that will help them to avoid further offending behaviors. Youth are challenged to fully realize and utilize their talents, knowledge, abilities and skills in the facility and upon release to meet their work, education and personal goals.

Staff Qualifications:

All correctional officers are required to complete 160 hours of Corrections Detention Officer Basic training through the MT Law Enforcement Academy, plus an additional 40 hours of on-site on-the-job training. The professional staff consists of bachelor and master’s level employees with multiple years of experience in juvenile corrections and counseling. Employees having direct contact with youth participate in at least 40 hours of training each year.
