Riverside Youth Correctional Facility, in Boulder, is a 20-bed secure custody facility for female juveniles from the age of 10 through 17, and has its own school district. Its staff members provide a wide range of treatment programs, including elements of the Balanced and Restorative Justice approach. All programming at Riverside attempts to incorporate the Relationship Model shown nationally to work best with female offenders. Services offered include:
Education - Riverside provides a fully accredited school on-site. Offenders attend school year round. They can earn a high school diploma from the facility, or can get a GED.
Psycho-Education groups - Staff facilitate nightly groups as part of a six-month curriculum focused on developing competencies in areas such as Communication Skills, Values Clarification, Thinking Errors, Assertiveness, and Drug & Alcohol Awareness.
Case Management - The case manager facilitates a weekly "Young Women's Lives" group, individual counseling session, treatment plan development, and coordination with the contracted Psychologist, Chemical Dependency Counselor, and placement planning with Parole Officers.
Medical - Riverside has 1.5 nurse staff who provide medical care, coordinate with off-site medical/dental/eye care and facilitate a weekly Nurse's Group.
Community Service - All offenders are expected to participate in weekly community service projects, such as crocheting lap robes for the nursing home clients and home bound in the county. Offenders also do the grounds upkeep for the Boulder Cemetery during the summer.
